Somali Parliament Demands Clarification on Somali Youths Fighting in Foreign Armies

Somali’s federal parliament has asked authorities in the nation to provide more details on reports that the country’s youths are being hired to fight in foreign armies.

Somali parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee wrote a letter to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

Last week, reports appeared in the country’s media stating that several youths were hired to help Ethiopian government to fight against Tigray rebels last year.

According to last week’s reports, over 370 Somali youths lost their lives fighting Tigray rebels on behalf of the Ethiopian government.

Grieving mothers of the young men who lost their lives in Tigray took to the streets to protest government silence.

On January 18, the parliamentary commission asked Farmaajo’s administration to provide more details on this issue.

Abdulkadir Osoble Ali, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, confirmed that the letter has already been delivered to Farmaajo.
