Somali Parliament Speaker, U.S. Envoy Discuss Deeper Cooperation in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, held high-level talks in Mogadishu on Sunday with a United States delegation led by Ambassador Richard Riley.

According to a statement from the Somali parliament, the discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations, with a strong emphasis on advancing cooperation in politics, security, and economic development. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on the longstanding partnership between Somalia and the United States.

Speaker Madobe highlighted Somalia’s progress in state-building and underscored the importance of international support in consolidating stability, particularly as the country navigates critical reforms in governance and security. Amb. Riley, for his part, reiterated Washington’s support for Somalia’s democratic institutions and ongoing efforts to bolster economic resilience.

The meeting comes at a time when Somalia is intensifying its push for political consensus, strengthening security operations against extremist groups, and implementing economic reforms. The U.S. remains a key partner in all three areas, providing financial assistance, security cooperation, and diplomatic backing.

Parliament officials described the engagement as “constructive,” noting that both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue to ensure alignment on shared priorities.

This latest interaction underscores Washington’s continued role in Somalia’s stabilization and development agenda, while reaffirming Mogadishu’s commitment to fostering strong international alliances.
