Reports indicate that Somali pirates have hijacked a ship that was traveling to the Port of Mogadishu.
The August 19 incident has shocked the region after cases of ships being hijacked along the coastline of Somalia dropped massively in the last few years.
According to Governor Musse Salah of Gardafu in Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Puntland, six pirates hijacked the ship on Wednesday night.
The Panama-flagged ship was on its way from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Mogadishu when the pirates struck in the cover of darkness.
It is not clear how many crewmembers were in the ship at the time of the incident or their nationalities.
