President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has accused Ethiopia of seeking land to annex rather than access to sea.
In his interview with Al Arabiya, the President said that Ethiopia already has access to sea.
He added that he spoke with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently.
President Mohamud told Al Arabiya that he asked the Ethiopian Prime Minister to conduct proper negotiations with Somalia on access to sea.
“Somalia has never refused to grant Ethiopia access to the sea,” said President Mohamud.
“What we want is for both nations to establish technical teams that would discuss how to grant Ethiopia access to the sea,” added the Somali President.
Mohamud said that Somalia would never accept the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that Ethiopia signed with Somaliland on January 1, 2024.
