Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and members of the Forum for National Salvation (FNS) have agreed to hold a follow-up meeting on July 20, 2025, after holding substantive talks today at Villa Somalia, the Presidential Palace.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to foster dialogue between the federal government and opposition political figures to address key national issues, including security, governance, and electoral reforms. According to officials, the discussions were held in a constructive atmosphere and reflected mutual interest in advancing political consensus and national unity.
While no specific agreements were announced today, sources close to the meeting said the parties exchanged views on contentious political matters and mechanisms for collaboration ahead of critical national decisions expected later this year.
The FNS, composed of influential opposition leaders and former officials, has been vocal about the need for inclusive decision-making and transparency in state-building processes. Today’s meeting signals a potential thaw in relations and a willingness by both sides to bridge political divides through negotiation.
President Mohamud emphasized the importance of national dialogue in strengthening Somalia’s democratic institutions, while FNS leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful political engagement.
Preparations are now underway for the July 20 session, which is expected to build upon the groundwork laid during today’s discussions.
