Doha, Qatar – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud landed in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday evening to take part in the Emergency Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, a high-level gathering convened to address pressing challenges affecting the region.
Upon arrival at Hamad International Airport, President Mohamud was received by Qatari officials and members of Somalia’s diplomatic mission in Doha. His participation underscores Somalia’s intention to actively contribute to collective discussions on regional stability, security, and cooperation.
The summit, set to bring together Arab and Islamic leaders, will focus on coordinated responses to crises impacting the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and broader Muslim-majority nations. Leaders are expected to deliberate on issues ranging from political conflicts and humanitarian emergencies to the strengthening of multilateral solidarity in the face of global challenges.
For Somalia, the gathering comes at a critical moment as the country navigates its own internal security struggles, economic reforms, and climate-related pressures. President Mohamud is anticipated to highlight Somalia’s priorities, including the fight against terrorism, safeguarding national sovereignty, and enhancing partnerships with regional allies.
The Doha summit is being closely watched as it offers a rare platform for collective Arab-Islamic decision-making at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics.
