President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Uganda ahead of the extraordinary Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) summit.
The IGAD summit takes place on January 18, 2024.
IGAD called for the meeting through Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh to discuss the tension between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Somalia and Ethiopia are in a diplomatic row that started when the latter signed an agreement with Somaliland on January 1.
Somalia accuses Ethiopia of “blatant aggression.”
It also says that Ethiopia is guilty of violating the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
IGAD convened the summit specifically to discuss the Ethiopia-Somalia row as well as the situation that’s developing in Sudan.
Reports indicate that Ethiopia might skip the summit.
