Somali President Bids Farewell to Swedish Ambassador Waern

Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday officially bid farewell to Swedish Ambassador Joachim Waern, marking the end of his diplomatic mission in Somalia.

During the farewell ceremony, President Mohamud expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Ambassador’s dedicated service and unwavering support for Somalia’s development and stability.

President Mohamud praised Amb. Waern’s instrumental role in reinforcing bilateral relations between Somalia and Sweden, emphasizing the ambassador’s efforts in advancing shared priorities such as peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, institutional development, and democratic governance.

“Ambassador Waern has been a true friend of Somalia and a committed partner in our journey toward peace, state-building, and prosperity. His tenure has seen significant progress in strengthening cooperation and people-to-people connections between our two nations,” said President Mohamud

Amb. Waern, who has served in Somalia through a critical phase of the country’s post-conflict recovery, thanked the Somali leadership for their partnership and reaffirmed Sweden’s long-standing commitment to supporting Somalia’s political and economic transformation.

Somalia and Sweden have maintained strong diplomatic ties over the years, with Sweden being a key development partner through its support for governance reforms, education, women’s rights, and humanitarian assistance.

As Amb. Waern concludes his assignment, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on the strong foundation laid during his tenure and deepening their collaboration in the years to come.
