President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired a meeting of the committee tasked with Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism on Friday.
The focus of the meeting was to accelerate the government’s efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s financial networks. This initiative is crucial for undermining the terrorist group’s capabilities and enhancing national security.
The Somali government has been working on various fronts to cut off financial support to Al-Shabaab, including enhancing financial regulations, increasing surveillance, and cooperating with international partners to track and block illicit financial flows.
