President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with the Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to discuss troops’ withdrawal.
The President and ATMIS chief met on Sunday at Villa Somalia.
Souef Mohamed El-Amine, the ATMIS chief and Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC), visited the President at his office.
Some of the issues discussed included security.
However, most of their focus was on the planned withdrawal of ATMIS troops by the end of this year.
The first phase of withdrawal kicks off at the end of this month (June) when 2,000 troops leave Somalia. ATMIS plans full withdrawal by December 31, 2023.
