MOGADISHU — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a high-level telephone conversation with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan to address the rapidly deteriorating security situation across the Middle East.
Calls for Immediate De-escalation
According to official statements from Villa Somalia, the two leaders extensively addressed recent regional developments and the grave consequences of continuing military escalation in the Middle East. Both heads of state emphatically stressed the absolute necessity for immediate de-escalation to prevent a wider, catastrophic regional conflict.
This dialogue aligns with the Federal Government’s consistent diplomatic stance. Recently, Somalia has formally expressed deep concern over military developments in the region and actively pushed for constructive dialogue and maximum restraint.
Solidarity Against Regional Aggression
During the call, President Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s complete and unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Jordan. He expressed strong support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid recent reports of Iranian aggression.
The Somali leader firmly emphasized that any assault on Jordan’s sovereign territory constitutes a blatant violation of international law that cannot be justified under any circumstances. This strong backing of Amman comes shortly after the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs was forced to categorically deny fraudulent documents claiming Mogadishu supported the Islamic Republic of Iran.
