President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has earned a Ph.D. from the University for Peace.
The President was awarded the Doctorate Degree on Saturday, December 2.
Consequently, he created history by becoming the first-ever President of Somalia to earn a Ph.D. while in office.
Going forward, he would now be addressed as Dr. Mohamud.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) created the university, which is commonly referred to as UPEACE, through Resolution 35/55.
It has been in operation since 1980 and remains dedicated to the study of peace.
