Somali President Elected Leader of Justice & Solidarity Party at Historic Convention

Mogadishu, Somalia – In a landmark political development, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected as the leader of the Justice and Solidarity Party (Xisbiga Caddaaladda iyo Iskaashiga) during the party’s inaugural convention held in Mogadishu on Tuesday evening.

The convention, attended by party delegates, senior politicians, and supporters, marks a significant step in solidifying the political presence of the Justice and Solidarity Party in Somalia’s evolving multi-party system.

In his acceptance speech, President Mohamud emphasized the party’s commitment to national unity, justice, and inclusive governance. “Our goal is to build a political platform that champions democratic values and empowers Somali citizens,” he said.

The election of President Mohamud, a seasoned politician and former academic, is expected to boost the party’s visibility and influence ahead of future political contests. The move also reflects growing efforts to institutionalize political parties as Somalia works toward a more structured electoral system.

Observers view this development as a strategic shift in the country’s political landscape, where established leaders are aligning themselves with formal political movements to shape the future of governance in Somalia.
