President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed the Summit of Heads of State and Government of Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) at the State House in Entebbe, Kampala. During his remarks, the President emphasized recent achievements in countering international terrorism and advancing Somalia’s Security Development Plan.
President Mohamud extended his gratitude to the troop-contributing nations of ATMIS and AUSSOM, commending their sacrifices and steadfast dedication to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in its fight against extremism.
“The AU mission’s support has been vital in degrading Al-Shabab, expanding humanitarian access, facilitating political transition, training Somali security forces, and saving countless lives,” he stated.
The Summit recognized the significant progress made by Somalia, including its accession to the East African Community (EAC), election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the lifting of the arms embargo, critical financial reforms for economic growth, and the ongoing voter registration ahead of the upcoming universal elections.
