President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has launched the country’s newest port.
The Somali President launched Garacad Port in the regional state of Puntland at a colorful function held on Saturday.
Various regional and federal leaders joined President Mohamud in the function.
These included Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and President Mustafe M. Omer of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia.
Garacad Port is a deep-water container terminal on the Indian Ocean.
The port cost millions of United States dollars to construct.
Funding for its construction came from local residents and businesses. Private investors also contributed funds for constructing the port.
The construction of the port kicked off in 2020.
