Somali President Mourns UAE Officers Killed in Mogadishu

The President of Somalia has mourned the deaths of United Arab Emirates (UAE) officers who were killed in Mogadishu on Saturday.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud sent a message of condolences to the families and friends of the UAE officers.

He also relayed his condolences to the people and government of the UAE.

The UAE officers were in Somalia as part of a team training local forces.

They were shot following a shootout that broke out at a military camp in the nation’s capital.

The President condemned the attack and incident that led to the shootout that eventually took the lives of the UAE trainers.

Reports indicate that more fatalities are involved. Unconfirmed reports thus far show that Somali and trainers and trainees also died in the incident.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the deadly and shocking attack.
