Somali President Reiterates Calls for National Unity in Tackling Al-Shabaab

On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a significant address emphasizing national unity, sovereignty, and the ongoing fight against terrorism.

He commended the Somali National Army for their sacrifices and urged local al-Shabaab fighters to abandon violence and contribute to stabilizing the country.

The President highlighted Somalia’s strengthened position, stating, “Somalia is stronger, better equipped, and mentally prepared for this war.”

Addressing the nation’s sovereignty, President Mohamud reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Somalia’s territorial integrity amidst tensions with Ethiopia.

He emphasized that Somalia will not compromise on its sovereignty or allow foreign interests to take precedence over national interests.

The President called for peaceful coexistence with Ethiopia but was firm against any violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, stating, “We are not at war with Ethiopia, Ethiopia is at war with us.”

Furthermore, the President urged Somalis to support the national forces on the frontlines, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifice during festive celebrations.

He called upon citizens to stand united in the fight against terrorism and to support the government’s efforts to eradicate extremism.

President Mohamud’s Eid message underscored themes of unity, resilience, and a collective commitment to achieving peace and stability in Somalia.
