President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Somali President confirmed his positive test on his social media accounts on Friday, June 24.
Mohamud, who has been on an official tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for much of this week, confirmed that he will be working from home.
Despite testing positive, President Mohamud assured Somalis that he has no symptoms.
Consequently, he would be self-isolating to reduce the chances of spreading the disease to friends and family or other members of his staff.
President Mohamud appealed to the people of Somalia to follow public health guidelines to curb the spread of the pandemic.
He confirmed the news a few days after reports from UAE indicated that some members of his traveling delegation tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.
