Somali President to Visit Ethiopia for Follow-Up Talks with PM Ahmed

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to visit Addis Ababa for follow-up discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

This visit follows the recent Ankara Declaration, a Turkey-brokered agreement aimed at resolving tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over the breakaway Somaliland region and Ethiopia’s pursuit of sea access.

In December 2024, under Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s mediation, both leaders agreed to initiate technical negotiations by February 2025.

These talks aim to finalize arrangements that respect Somalia’s territorial integrity while addressing Ethiopia’s need for reliable sea access.

The upcoming Addis Ababa meeting is expected to further these discussions, focusing on implementing the Ankara Declaration’s commitments and enhancing bilateral cooperation for regional stability and economic development.
