Somali President Vows to End Long Cycle of Political Instability

Mogadishu, Somalia — During the official launching of the ambitious Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060) in Mogadishu on Monday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pledged to end Somalia’s long cycle of political instability and usher in a new era of unity and progress.

Speaking before senior officials, the diplomatic community, civil society representatives, and youth leaders, President Mohamud acknowledged current tensions surrounding Somalia’s 2026 election model and committed to resolving them through continued consultations.

“Our political disagreements must not define us,” he declared, emphasizing that broad consensus and compromise would be key to sustaining national cohesion.

He also outlined his government’s vision for Somalia’s future as “a regional powerhouse in education and the economy,” with CV2060 serving as a transformative blueprint for peace, stability, and long-term growth. The plan seeks to tackle systemic challenges, enhance education and innovation, and empower future generations to achieve their full potential.

While stakeholders welcomed the plan’s aspirational goals, some urged more inclusive political dialogue and greater transparency in decision-making. Nevertheless, today’s unveiling set a hopeful tone for Somalia’s long-term trajectory as leaders across sectors rallied to support a stable and prosperous future.
