The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has given telecom companies in the country up to August 31, 2021 to register or face closure.
On August 19, the National Communications Authority (NCA) issued a decree stipulating the new requirements.
According to the decree, telecom firms must conform to the new unified licensing network in Somalia.
This new requirement covers different players in the telecom industry.
These include application and service providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs).
Firms that specialize in registering Somalia’s .so domain must also comply with this new law or face closure.
NCA requires national communications infrastructure providers must pay an initial fee of US$50,000.
Afterward, licensees would then have to pay US$275,000 and US$50,000 as initial operating fee and annual fee respectively.
