Mogadishu — Somali youth repatriated from Algeria were officially welcomed back home on Friday in a ceremony attended by National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRI) First Deputy Commissioner Abdullahi Adan.
Representatives of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Somalia were also at the Aden Adde International Airport to welcome the youth.
The youth, who endured significant hardships after embarking on irregular migration routes, were received with messages of hope and encouragement.
Speaking at the event, Adan acknowledged the difficult experiences they had faced and underscored the importance of their contributions to the future of Somalia.
He urged the youth to recognize their role as the country’s most vital resource and emphasized the need for them to stay in Somalia to help rebuild the nation.
“Your strength, resilience, and ambitions are key to creating a better future for all Somalis. We must work together toward developing our homeland rather than seeking uncertain futures abroad,” stated Adan.
The representatives from the federal government and IOM Somalia reaffirmed their commitment to supporting returning migrants through reintegration programs, vocational training, and psychosocial support to help them reestablish their lives in Somalia.
The ceremony highlighted ongoing efforts by Somalia’s partners to tackle irregular migration and ensure sustainable reintegration as part of a long-term strategy to provide opportunities for youth at home.
