Somalia Advocates Stronger Africa-Europe Relations at Luanda Summit

Luanda, Angola – At the opening of the 7th AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama called for enhanced cooperation between Africa and Europe on peace, trade, development, and climate action.

Salah’s remarks occurred as leaders from both continents gathered under the theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism,” observing the 25th anniversary of the formal Africa-EU partnership.

Co-chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa, the summit assembles heads of state and government to evaluate shared priorities such as economic integration, security, migration, climate resilience, and global governance reforms.

Prior to the summit, more than 100 civil society and youth representatives convened in Luanda for an AU-EU forum to offer specific recommendations on matters including governance, digital innovation, and green transition.

Somalia’s appeal for closer alignment with Europe, especially regarding peace, blue-economy investment, and youth empowerment, arrives as the AU-EU partnership refreshes its long-term outlook under Agenda 2063 alongside the EU’s Global Gateway investment initiative.
