Somalia Alarmed over Surging COVID-19 Cases

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is alarmed over the surging cases of COVID-19 around the country.

On February 10, D. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, said that she was “extremely alarmed” by the worsening COVID-19 numbers.

According to Dr. Nur, Somalia lost at least 10 patients to the deadly disease from February 4-9.

This signified the sharpest rise in the number of people killed by COVID-19 since August 2019.

Three more patients were taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) for advanced medical care, as their health got worse.

The health ministry tested 592 people in Banadir Region. On Tuesday, 51 were of them were found infected with the virulent disease.

Nevertheless, D. Nur assured Somalis that the nation was yet to record the new virus strains reported in other parts of the world.
