Somalia Among 12 Nations Hit by New Full U.S. Travel Ban

Washington, US – United States President Donald Trump has signed a sweeping proclamation imposing a full travel ban on citizens from 12 countries, including Somalia, in a move that has sparked global concern and is expected to face legal challenges.

Alongside Somalia, the ban targets Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen. Citizens from seven additional countries—including Cuba, Laos, and Venezuela—will face partial travel restrictions.

The Trump administration argues the restrictions are necessary to protect U.S. national security and ensure proper vetting procedures. However, critics—including human rights organizations and immigration advocates—condemn the policy as discriminatory and warn of its humanitarian impact on families and asylum seekers.

Legal experts predict swift court challenges, citing concerns over religious and racial profiling, as well as the potential violation of international law and refugee protections.
