Somalia Among Recipients of $110 Allocated by UN’s CERF

The United Nations’ Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated US$110 million to bolster life-saving assistance in ten of the world’s most underfunded and neglected crises across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This allocation aims to address the urgent needs of over 300 million people worldwide who require humanitarian aid amid declining global funding levels.

Approximately one-third of this funding is designated for Sudan and neighboring Chad, which hosts a significant number of Sudanese refugees. Other beneficiaries include Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Honduras, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Venezuela, and Zambia. Additionally, part of the allocation will support initiatives to protect vulnerable populations from climate-related shocks.

Finland has been a steadfast supporter of CERF since its inception in 2006, contributing consistently to the fund’s resources. This enduring support underscores Finland’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts and the critical role CERF plays in enabling timely and effective responses to emergencies worldwide.
