Somalia and AU Pledge Stronger Cooperation in Key Talks

Mogadishu — Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Omar, held a cordial meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday with Mr. Adebayo Kareem, the interim Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (AU SRCC) for Somalia.

Their talks focused on deepening coordination and enhancing the long-standing partnership between Somalia and the African Union.

In his remarks, Omar warmly welcomed Kareem, stressing Somalia’s appreciation for the AU’s continued support in areas of peace, security, and development.

“Our collaboration with the African Union is invaluable as we work together toward a more stable and prosperous future for the Somali people,” Omar said.

Kareem echoed these sentiments, noting the progress that Somalia has made and reiterating the AU’s commitment to supporting its goals.

“Somalia remains a priority for the African Union. Our role is to stand by you as you build a united and peaceful nation,” Kareem remarked.

Both officials agreed that their offices would hold regular consultations going forward to streamline joint initiatives and bolster regional security, political stability, and socioeconomic recovery.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment to maintain close engagement as Somalia navigates its national priorities with the continued support of the AU.
