Baku, Azerbaijan — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held a high-level meeting on Thursday with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, in the capital city of Baku, signaling a fresh push to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas including trade, education, energy, infrastructure development, and diplomatic engagement. Both ministers emphasized the importance of deepening political dialogue and promoting mutual support in multilateral forums.
Abdisalam expressed Somalia’s appreciation for Azerbaijan’s role in fostering international cooperation and highlighted the potential for shared growth through targeted partnerships. He also briefed his host on Somalia’s ongoing reforms, development priorities, and the country’s commitment to regional peace and integration.
In turn, Bayramov affirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to expand its collaboration with Somalia and support efforts that promote sustainable development and institutional capacity building in the Horn of Africa nation.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to initiate technical consultations aimed at outlining specific cooperation frameworks. Both sides agreed to consider the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in areas of mutual interest in the near future.
This diplomatic engagement in Baku reflects Somalia’s broader foreign policy strategy of building diversified international partnerships to support its national development goals.
