Somalia and Azerbaijan Strengthen Ties Through Green Energy and Oil Cooperation

On Friday, Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire Mohamed, held a high-level meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, to advance the energy cooperation between their nations.

The discussion centered around the implementation of the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somalia and Türkiye, which focuses on collaboration in green energy development, oil and gas exploration, and technical training.

Dahir emphasized Somalia’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources sustainably, aligning with global trends toward renewable energy.

He also underlined the importance of building Somalia’s human resource capacity through international partnerships.

Shahbazov welcomed Somalia’s engagement and expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to support the process, particularly through knowledge exchange and capacity-building initiatives.

The meeting reflects Somalia’s growing efforts to engage globally in energy diplomacy and to leverage strategic partnerships to develop its energy sector in line with national development priorities.
