Somalia and China have announced a significant $1.2 billion investment partnership set to be implemented during 2025-26.
This partnership focuses on enhancing infrastructure, energy, and agriculture sectors in Somalia.
The investment is expected to support Somalia’s economic growth, create job opportunities, and strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
Details on the exact projects and timelines within this partnership are still forthcoming, but this collaboration marks a substantial step in China’s engagement with Somalia, aligning with China’s broader Belt and Road Initiative goals in Africa.
The partnership was announced this week.
It came as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in China for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit taking place in Beijing.
This represents the first time in 40 years that Somalia such a significant financial or investment agreement with any of its international partners.
