Somalia–Djibouti Partnership Advances on Security Matters

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia and Djibouti have reached an agreement to enhance defense and security cooperation, a development that officials claim will bolster Somalia’s stabilization initiatives and improve regional coordination against common security threats.

The consensus was established during discussions between Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and his Djiboutian counterpart, Hassan Omar Mohamed, conducted in Mogadishu alongside a regional defense conference.

Both parties anticipate that this closer partnership will facilitate joint planning, intelligence sharing, and operational coordination, which will assist Somalia in fortifying its security apparatus while promoting greater stability throughout the Horn of Africa.

The talks also emphasized Djibouti’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia’s security transition, including its participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) which authorities maintain is essential for preserving recent security advancements.

Strengthened defense relationships are also projected to advance Somalia’s state-building initiatives and reinforce regional security frameworks as the nation seeks to decrease its dependence on international military presence.
