Egypt is set to play a role in the newly approved African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The Defense Ministry of Somalia announced the completion of technical discussions on Egypt’s participation, suggesting that Cairo could contribute personnel or other support to the mission.
This development aligns with Egypt’s recent reaffirmation of its commitment to Somalia’s unity and security.
It also marks a step forward in the transition from the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to AUSSOM, which is expected to have a reduced troop presence and a more focused mandate.
