Somalia and Ethiopia are to pursue stronger cooperation between themselves to promote peace in the region.
This emerged on July 16 following a meeting between Demeke Mekonen and Balal Mohamed Osman.
Mekonen is Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Osman is Somalia’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The two met in Lusaka, Zambia while attending the ongoing 41st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) Member States.
Mekonen commended Somalia for holding successful elections recently.
He urged the two neighboring countries in East Africa to step up the fight against terrorism as a means of improving security.
On his part, Osman assured Mekonen that the new administration in Somalia has prioritized peace.
He asked Somalia and Ethiopia to work together to destroy Al-Shabaab.
