Mogadishu, Somalia — The Somalia Police Force (SPF) chief, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, on Tuesday welcomed Iraq’s Martyrs’ Fund Head, Major General Amjad Al-Awadi, and his delegation upon their arrival at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. The visiting team, accompanied by Somalia’s Ambassador to Iraq, Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed, is in the country for a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in security and institutional development.
The visit marks a renewed chapter in the partnership between Somalia and Iraq—two nations bound by shared struggles and aspirations for peace and stability. Discussions during the mission are expected to center on areas of mutual interest, including capacity-building for police and military personnel, veteran and martyr welfare programs, and frameworks for broader security collaboration.
For Somalia, the visit comes at a time when the government continues to modernize its police force and deepen international partnerships to sustain hard-won security gains. Iraq’s experience in rebuilding its institutions after decades of conflict offers valuable lessons for Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its law enforcement and social welfare systems.
The delegation’s schedule includes consultations with senior Somali officials and a review of potential avenues for technical cooperation. Both sides are keen to translate their historical goodwill into tangible outcomes that support national resilience and regional solidarity.
As Mogadishu continues to host a growing number of diplomatic engagements, this visit underscores Somalia’s expanding network of international partnerships built on shared experiences, mutual respect, and a collective commitment to peace.
