Somalia and Kenya Appoint Teams to Ease Diplomatic Standoff

Somalia and Kenya have agreed to appoint teams that will look for solutions to the existing standoff between the two nations.

In a phone conversation between President Farmaajo and his Kenyan counterpart, President Kenyatta, the two leaders said they will appoint teams to tackle various issues.

The two groups will work with a clear and defined mandate. Part of the mandate would be to find solutions to the escalating insecurity along the border.

On Monday, tensions between the two Horn of Africa neighbors simmered when fighting broke out along the border. The fight caused major disruption in Kenya’s Mandera Town.

Somalia had accused Kenya of hosting a fugitive minister from Jubaland. Afterward, Kenya accused Somalia of invading its territory.

For the last one year, Kenya and Somalia have experienced diplomatic tiff that threatens the peace and security in the war-torn region.
