Lome, Togo – Somalia and Togo have signaled a renewed commitment to diplomatic engagement following high-level talks in Lomé between Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, and Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across political, economic and diplomatic fronts. Both sides expressed a shared determination to strengthen ties and explore new avenues for collaboration, highlighting mutual interests in peace, stability and development across the African continent.
Omar praised Togo’s growing role in regional diplomacy and underscored Somalia’s intention to diversify its international partnerships. He emphasized that Mogadishu views stronger relations with West African states as essential to advancing pan-African solidarity and collective growth.
Dussey welcomed Somalia’s outreach, reiterating Togo’s willingness to work closely with Mogadishu on areas such as trade, capacity building, and multilateral coordination. He noted that enhanced cooperation between the two nations could contribute to broader African Union objectives, particularly in security and economic integration.
The talks concluded with both ministers reaffirming their commitment to institutionalising dialogue and accelerating joint initiatives in the coming months.
