Somalia and Turkey Sign Joint Onshore Hydrocarbon Exploration Agreement

Türkiye’s state-owned energy company, TPAO (Turkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortakligi), and the Somalia Petroleum Authority (SPA) have signed an agreement for joint onshore hydrocarbon exploration in Somalia.

The announcement was made by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, according to a report by Anadolu News Agency.

This partnership highlights Türkiye’s continued engagement in Somalia, focusing on energy exploration as a critical area for bilateral cooperation.

The agreement aligns with Somalia’s goal of attracting foreign investment to boost its energy sector and Türkiye’s interest in expanding its presence in Africa’s natural resource markets.

The collaboration is expected to contribute to Somalia’s economic development while strengthening ties between the two nations.

This marks another step in Türkiye’s broader strategy of supporting Somalia’s development, as seen in its involvement in infrastructure, defense, and humanitarian efforts in the region.
