Ankara – Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) Chairman Abdikarim Hassan led a high-level delegation to Turkey for bilateral talks aimed at enhancing Somalia’s electoral systems.
The delegation held key meetings with Ahmet Yener, head of the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council, discussing voter registration mechanisms, electoral frameworks, and diaspora engagement strategies.
Additional consultations were held with Turkish foreign ministry officials, focusing on Somalia’s broader electoral roadmap.
A joint statement noted that both parties pledged cooperation in technology transfer and staff training to bolster Somalia’s democratic institutions. The visit underscores growing Somalia–Turkey ties in governance and institutional development.
