AFRICOM announced that it carried out a joint drone attack with the Federal Government of Somalia troops against Al-Shabaab on Friday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the US Africa Command said that the joint airstrike took place on Friday near Bush Madina.
Initial assessments show that the airstrike killed five Al-Shabaab fighters. It also clarified that no civilians were injured or killed.
AFRICOM has been working closely with FGS to improve security in the country. It also aims at enhancing governance and economic development in the East African nation.
The airstrike is the latest in a series of increased attacks carried out against Al-Shabaab since the turn of the year to stop the extremist group from spreading its activities in the region.
