Somalia has applied for a 3-month extension for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) support program.
The East African nation applied for the extension through its Ministry of Finance.
Laura Jaramillo, the Head of the IMF Country Mission to Somalia, confirmed this news to the media on Friday, May 6.
In February 2022, IMF had warned that the delayed elections in the country could jeopardize the renewal of the financial support it had been extending to Somalia.
Now, Somalia would like IMF to continue offering the support until August 17, 2022.
Somalia has been receiving over $400 million in financial support from IMF over the last three years.
