Somalia Appoints First-Ever Ambassador to Poland

Warsaw, Poland – In a historic diplomatic milestone, Somalia’s Ambassador to Germany and non-resident Ambassador to Poland, AbdiAsis M. Mohamed Farabadane, officially submitted his credentials to Polish President Andrzej Duda on Monday.

In the process, he became the first-ever Somali Ambassador to present credentials in the Republic of Poland.

The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Poland. Amb. Farabadane, a seasoned diplomat, expressed his gratitude and commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

“This is a proud and historic moment for Somalia. Our presence here signifies Somalia’s dedication to broadening its diplomatic footprint and building meaningful partnerships across Europe,” said Amb. Farabadane.

President Duda welcomed the Ambassador warmly and emphasized Poland’s readiness to engage with Somalia in areas of mutual interest, including development, trade, education, and security cooperation.

The appointment of a Somali envoy to Poland is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s broader strategy to expand its diplomatic presence globally, deepen its engagement with European partners, and foster opportunities for economic and political collaboration.

Amb. Farabadane’s accreditation comes at a time of renewed efforts by Somalia to reintegrate into international institutions and establish deeper bilateral ties following decades of conflict and isolation.
