Malawi – Somalia has formally established diplomatic representation in Malawi with the appointment of Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan as its non-resident ambassador to the southern African nation.
Amb. Hassan, who also serves as Somalia’s envoy to Tanzania and the East African Community, presented his Letter of Credence to Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo.
During the official ceremony, Amb. Hassan reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Malawi, particularly in the areas of trade, security, education, and regional cooperation.
He emphasized the importance of fostering mutually beneficial ties and pledged to work closely with the Malawian government to promote peace, economic growth, and integration across the region.
Tembo welcomed the ambassador and expressed optimism about deepening cooperation between the two countries. She noted that the establishment of diplomatic representation would open new avenues for collaboration in regional affairs and development.
The move comes as Somalia continues to broaden its diplomatic outreach and reinforce ties with fellow African nations, aligning with its broader foreign policy goals of integration, peace, and sustainable development across the continent.
