Somalia has taken over the chairmanship of the Council of Ministers of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF).
Somalia’s assumption of this role is a historic milestone, marking the first time the country has led this regional peace and security mechanism since its establishment in 2005.
The transition of leadership from Rwanda took place on Saturday.
The EASF, as part of the African Standby Force, plays a critical role in promoting regional stability by providing rapid deployment capabilities in response to conflicts and crises in Eastern Africa.
Somalia’s leadership comes at a time when the country continues to navigate its own security challenges, particularly in its fight against terrorism and efforts to strengthen its national institutions.
This development demonstrates Somalia’s growing engagement in regional and continental affairs, highlighting its commitment to contributing to peace and security in the region.
It is also an opportunity for Somalia to showcase its progress in rebuilding its governance and security frameworks while fostering collaboration among member states.
