Somalia will officially become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday.
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) will vote on the matter today, June 6.
Ahmed Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, leads a delegation from Somalia to New York for the historic vote.
Once approved, Somalia will hold the seat for two years from January 2025.
Apart from Somalia, UNGA will also approve four other nations to take the non-permanent seats. These are Denmark, Panama, Pakistan, and Greece.
