Somalia Boosts Data Communication Capacity in Kigali Training

Kigali, Rwanda – The Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) has wrapped up a five-day intensive workshop in Kigali, Rwanda aimed at strengthening how the country communicates and disseminates key statistical information.

The training, held in collaboration with the European Commission, the African Union Institute for Statistics, and the Pan African Statistical Programme II (PASII), focused on enhancing the ability of Somali statisticians to effectively translate data into accessible and impactful narratives.

Over the course of the workshop, SNBS experts received practical guidance in data storytelling, digital content strategy and social media engagement. Participants explored new methods for presenting findings on critical national issues such as youth unemployment, food security, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and governance indicators in ways that better inform policymakers and resonate with the wider public.

According to officials, the sessions emphasized clarity, visual communication and audience-friendly messaging to ensure statistical products reach decision-makers and citizens who rely on accurate information.

The SNBS expressed its gratitude to the European Commission and the AU Institute for Statistics for their continued support in strengthening Somalia’s national statistical systems. The bureau said the training marks another step forward in its broader efforts to improve data usability, transparency and public engagement.

The Kigali workshop is expected to contribute to more informed policy planning and stronger evidence-based governance as Somalia advances its national development agenda.
