Somalia Boosts Energy Sector Skills with New University Partnership

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Banadir University aimed at advancing collaboration in energy, mineral development, and environmental stewardship.

The agreement establishes a framework for joint efforts in geoscience education, mineral and energy management, research, and sustainable resource development.

It also opens new opportunities for students and professionals through scholarships, internships, and academic exchanges.

Officials said the partnership will empower young Somali specialists to contribute to the country’s growing extractive and energy sectors.

The MoU underscores the ministry’s goal of building local expertise while promoting environmental responsibility and scientific innovation.

Banadir University will work closely with the ministry on research initiatives, technical training, and the development of policies that align natural resource exploration with sustainable practices.

The collaboration is expected to help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry needs, while strengthening national capacity in mineral and energy governance.

The signing marks a new step in Somalia’s efforts to harness its natural resources through homegrown talent and institutional cooperation.
