Somalia Cabinet Approves Defense, Finance, and Social Welfare Bills

Mogadishu, Somalia – On Thursday, Somalia’s Council of Ministers convened for its regular weekly session under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

The meeting culminated in the endorsement of crucial legislation, featuring updates to the Central Bank Law and the adoption of the National Defense Bill, intended to improve the nation’s economic administration and defense framework.

To reinforce Somalia’s financial infrastructure and boost institutional accountability, ministers approved modifications to the Central Bank Law.

The assembly also ratified the Somali Seafarer’s Discharge Book Regulation, an initiative to standardize maritime employment practices and documentation according to global norms.

The meeting addressed social progress and human rights concerns by endorsing the Children’s Rights Bill and the Family Affairs Bill. Additionally, ministers approved the policy framework for the National Education Development Fund (NEDF), targeting consistent financial support for educational advancement in the country.

Local council elections in the Benadir region later this month constituted a central agenda item.

The Minister of Interior delivered a thorough briefing on electoral readiness. Prime Minister Barre praised ministers for their public interaction during the campaign period, stressing that government-citizen cooperation is fundamental for successful administration.
