Somalia is likely to find itself caught in crossroads as talks on the controversial construction of a dam by Ethiopia resume.
Ethiopia’s plan to construct a dam along the Blue Nile has put it in direct conflict with Sudan and Egypt.
Sudan and Ethiopia rely on the waters from the Blue Nile for agricultural and economic purposes.
The two nations are some of Somalia’s staunchest allies in the region.
However, Somalia also enjoys solid diplomatic relations with Ethiopia, a country it shares a border with too.
It remains to be seen how Somalia would approach the almost guaranteed intense arguments between its allies.
The fresh round of talks is scheduled to last the entire week.
Representatives from the European Union (EU), African Union (AU), and the World Bank are expected to join those from Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt in the weeklong discussions.
