Mogadishu, Somalia – Mogadishu came alive today as Somalia marked African Statistics Day 2025 with a high-profile national ceremony, highlighting the pivotal role of accurate and timely data in shaping policy, governance, and development across the continent.
This year’s theme, “Leveraging Innovations in Data and Statistics to Promote a Just, Peaceful, Inclusive and Prosperous Society for Africans,” struck a particular chord with Somalia’s ongoing transformation. The Somali National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) has been at the forefront of modernizing data systems, expanding digital data collection, and strengthening administrative records to underpin peacebuilding, justice initiatives, stabilization efforts, and national development priorities.
The event drew a wide spectrum of participants, including federal ministries, members of parliament, representatives from federal member states, the Office of the Attorney General, UN agencies, the World Bank, humanitarian and development partners, academia, media, and civil society organizations. Speakers underscored a shared commitment to evidence-based governance and strategic decision-making, emphasizing the critical value of reliable statistics in advancing societal well-being.
SNBS has steadily built a modern, coordinated, and resilient national statistical system aligned with international standards. Today’s commemoration not only celebrated Africa’s statistical achievements but also reaffirmed Somalia’s dedication to a future where data drives sustainable growth, peace, and prosperity.
