Somalia has publicly supported diplomatic initiatives by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, while also calling for an independent inquiry into Israeli airstrikes on UN facilities in the region.
During a United Nations Security Council session, Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Osman denounced what he termed Israel’s “blatant aggression,” which has led to significant civilian casualties and destruction.
This stance aligns Somalia with Arab and Muslim-majority nations advocating for the Palestinian cause and the pursuit of Palestinian statehood.
In related developments, a UN report released in October 2024 documented Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities and medical personnel in Gaza, labeling these actions as violations of international human rights laws and potential war crimes.
Additionally, the UN Secretary-General condemned an Israeli attack on a school serving as a shelter in Nuseirat, which resulted in the deaths of six UNRWA staff members and 12 others, calling for an independent investigation into the incident.
These events have intensified international calls for accountability and the protection of civilians in the Gaza conflict.
